Hola Amigos! My name is Jazmin, I have a B.A in Psychology and a M.A in Human Services Counseling. I am a native Texan who currently resides in the state of Alabama; however, my spouse is stationed at Fort Benning, Georgia. 90% of the time you can find us enjoying the festivities, food, culture, and nature that the peach state has to offer. We have a Great Dane named Blu and a black short-haired cat named Bella. Growing up, my family and I often took trips to the Texas Coast or camped in various places along the Sierra Blanca Mountain Range in New Mexico. My love for the outdoors grew when my spouse and I got stationed at Joint Base Lewis McChord in Washington State. If you haven’t visited or been stationed there it is definitely a state you want to put on your bucket list. Due to our recent move down south, I cannot tell you how thrilled I am to explore all the states that surround Georgia. More than anything I cannot wait to make my way up to the Blue Ridge Mountains. So, grab your boots, snacks, and backpack and join the Georgia chapter as we hike our way around the state!

Favorite Adventure: My top two are as follows: In 2017 my spouse and I went snorkeling in Cozumel, MX and 2018 my family and I spent my 25th Birthday Whale watching near Port Angeles, WA.

Favorite Trail Snack: PB&J’s, cashews, pistachios, and some type of fruit.

I never leave the house for a hike without my travel first aid kit, water, wipes, trash bags, sunglasses, pepper spray, and my phone.

Stephanie Hughes

Hello there! My name is Stephanie and I currently reside in Georgia where my husband Luke is Active Duty Air Force stationed at Moody AFB. We’ve got two spoiled pups, Walter and Hank, that love to join us on our adventures and we wouldn’t have it any other way. I’ve been in love with the outdoors since I was a kid but it wasn’t until my early 20s that I began tent camping and hiking and I haven’t looked back since. I love snowshoeing, hiking, fishing, kayaking, gardening, camping, and cooking – there’s nothing better than a meal prepared in a cast iron dutch oven over an open fire.* To me, nature has always had a way of healing my soul and getting outdoors refreshes and revitalizes my spirit like nothing else. In the words of the great naturalist and writer John Muir, “Climb the mountains and get their good tidings. Nature's peace will flow into you as sunshine flows into trees. The winds will blow their own freshness into you, and the storms their energy, while cares will drop off like autumn leaves.” (Our National Parks, 1901, p.56)

Favorite Adventure: My husband and I were able to backpack the entire Georgia section of the Appalachian Trail over 10 days and it was such a rewarding (and challenging!) experience. The mountains in North Georgia are beautiful, especially in the fall, and following the white blazes for 80ish miles was such a neat experience. My favorite day hike by far is the Green Monarch Ridge Trail with breathtaking views of beautiful Lake Pend Oreille in the Idaho panhandle.

Favorite Trail Snack: CLIF bars, Gu, and Buddy Fruits (the multifruit is the best!)

I always pack extra water and plenty of snacks – no one wants to be dehydrated or hangry. And I never leave home without bug spray or chapstick.
