About the event
Come join our Military Wild|Georgia ambassador Stephanie for a Beginner Backpacking 101 overnight trip to Providence Canyon State Park!
We will be meeting up promptly at 10:30 am on Saturday, April 13th for a pack shakedown and final gear check.  At 11:00 am, we will be attending a ranger led program where they’ll present some Providence Canyon facts and speak about the importance of leave no trace principles.
After the program is over, we will have a picnic lunch at the parking/picnic area and afterwards, hike the Backcountry Trail to our campsite, set up camp, and have the rest of the afternoon to relax or explore more of the trails. We’ll regroup at 6 pm for dinner and spend the evening around the campfire (weather and conditions permitting).
On Sunday, April 14th, we’ll pack up camp and at 10 am, hike back to the trailhead.  You will have the option of exploring more of the canyon on your own or heading to Omaha Brewing Company for some post-backpacking beers and food to wrap up the event.
This event is limited to adult participants only. You will be required to hike in with all of your own gear, to include food and water. The campsite is 3 miles from the parking lot and has no amenities – no running water, no electricity, and no restrooms. You should be physically prepared to get yourself and your gear to and from the campsite.
While we have structured this event to serve as an introduction to backpacking and highly encourage first time backpackers to attend, you should have previous experience hiking on uneven and rough terrain, front country tent or hammock camping, and be familiar with basic first aid.
Please note: spots are limited to 10 participants and are FIRST COME, FIRST SERVE! All reservations must be made by 5:00 pm on Friday, March 29th.
